The Davenport Fire
Department was organized in 1924 as a volunteer department. In 2007 the
Davenport Fire Department responded to 618 calls for service and training
sessions last year with medical/rescue calls averaging 80% of our call volume.
Currently, the department consists of six-career firefighter/EMT’s paid by the
City of Davenport. These members are on 2-man shifts and are on-duty at the
firehouse for 24 hours and off duty for 48 hours. Davenport is also proud to
have over 20 volunteer firefighters that are firefighter 1 and/or firefighter II
certified all of our volunteers are required to be First Responder medically
trained, several members of our department are EMT’s and Paramedics. The
Davenport Fire Department has 7 volunteer fire administrative and command
officers.
The department provides fire and rescue services to the City of Davenport as
well as some areas of unincorporated Polk County under a mutual aid
agreement. The Davenport Fire Department uses some of the most up to date
equipment available to protect the residence of Davenport such as thermal
imagining, gas detecting equipment, new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus’ (SCBA’s)
and portable section units for medical emergencies. The Staff of the Fire
Department continues to seek out grants and other funding sources to assist us
in keeping up with the ever-increasing costs of fire protection.
The current fire station was built in 1963 and is located at 112 W. Palmetto St.
