DAVENPORT -- Residents and visitors can
get some information from the city of
Davenport's new Web site, even though it
is still under construction.
Launching the Web site -www.davenportfl.org
-- has been a goal of the Davenport
Council for a while.
"The Internet is one of the best ways to
get your information out there," said
City Manager Ryan Taylor.
Although most of the site is still under
construction and there were a few
mistakes in the information on meeting
times initially, Taylor said he likes
the overall look of it.
"There are some things we need to fix on
it, but it has several locator maps on
it that tell people where we are,"
Taylor said.
Bob Andrews, a reserve police officer
for the city, is serving as the
Webmaster for the site.
Andrews fixed the incorrect meeting
times and election terms on the Web site
late Friday afternoon.
He said he enjoys working on the
computer and developing Web sites is a
hobby of his.
"I enjoy doing it," Andrews said.
Taylor said Andrews doesn't work on the
Web site on a fulltime basis.
"He gets to work on it a couple of hours
a week right now," Taylor said.
The council hasn't set any money aside
for the Web site yet.
Taylor said he intends to put some money
aside in the 2006-07 budget for the Web
site.
He did not know if the city would offer
advertisers spots on the Web site.
Andrews said the site is still a work in
progress.
"It isn't finished by any means,"
Andrews said. "I am still waiting to get
more information from each of the
departments. I am also planning on
getting more pictures to put on the Web
site as well."
The Web site has several different
sections of information for City Hall,
police, fire and public utilities.
There are also contact numbers and
pictures of historic City Hall.
There is some information under all four
sections, but more will be added, Taylor
said.
"We just started working on this, but
eventually we hope to have information
about meeting minutes and city
activities posted on the site," Taylor
said.
